Quick note to any MES families reading- I'm bummed that it only worked out for us to ski once this winter due to a variety of weather/snow challenges that presented on Mondays. The day we did ski was fairly cold resulting in me taking exactly zero photos. Stay tuned for a post on what we've been up to indoors!
That deep snow pack at Waitsfield melted quickly between March 13th and 14th and students were dodging puddles and dirt patching to stay on the snow. The glorious sunshine and forgiving, soft snow were perfect conditions for obstacle courses, relay races, and a few classes got to send it on the pump track (before it melted out and exposed gravel!).
On our first couple of outings, most students needed some assistance with their boots or bindings. By our fifth and final class, many students were entirely independent and very happy that this meant more time to ski and less time waiting for me to help them. This fine motor skills of opening and closing a binding or zippering up a boot are just as essential for development as the gross motor skills of skiing and falling and getting up.
