Fall 2023 Health Class

Students playing a name game during the first week of health class

Students in grades K-6 at MES and WES have health class every other Wednesday for 40 minutes. In September, we focused on self-esteem and what makes each of us unique. We learned about goal setting. Ask your student what goal they are working towards. Students in grades 1-3 read Wilma Unlimited: How Wilma Rudolph Became the World's Fastest Woman by Kathleen Krull, illustrated by David Diaz and discussed the obstacles Wilma overcame - premature birth and a weak immune system, a leg injury from polio, racism, sexism- on the way to reaching her goals and winning 3 Olympic gold medals.

In October and early November we discussed germs, the immune system and the importance of hand washing to stay healthy. Students made drawings as a reminder to themselves and others about hand washing.
