December Health and PE at MES

This month in PE class, grades 1-6 were learning volleyball skills through small sided games like "keepy-uppy" and volleyball 4 square. Kindergartners worked on catching and throwing as well as locomotion skills- skipping, hopping, galloping, jumping, running, and side sliding. Preschoolers had an introduction to these movements as well. In January, we're looking forward to some basketball fun.

In health class, grades K-2 discussed different influences and healthy habits, like friends role modeling helmet wearing and family reminding them to get enough sleep. 3rd and 4th grade learned how to stand up to bully, teasing and harassment and considered who are trusted adults that they could turn to for help. 5th and 6th graders practiced assertive communication and reflected on the benefits of this style of communication compared with passive or aggressive styles. They role played how assertive communication might be used to say no to trying a cigarette or joining in on bullying.

"I am healthy when I play outside."
