Taking a heart rate reading Looking at a model of the heart
Kindergarten
We've been learning a lot about our bodies and brains! Recent lessons have included how to stay safe around medicine, who is a trusted adult we can talk to if we need help or to share our feelings, and how our to keep our heart healthy with lots of movement.
First and Second Grade
As we continue to learn about our bodies and brains, we start to learn about how to share what we know and advocacy. Students designed posters that promote healthy habits like hand washing, covering a cough, or eating vegetables.
Other recent lessons have included how to stay safe around medicine, who is a trusted adult we can talk to if we need help or to share our feelings, and how our to keep our heart healthy with lots of movement.
Third and Fourth Grade
Third and fourth graders focused on refusal skills and how these can be applied to situations involving drugs and alcohol. We also learned about the effects of tobacco and alcohol on the body. We walked through how to make a decision about trying beer if pressured by a friend. Ask your student why they would choose to be alcohol free. Earlier in the year, we practiced different stress relief techniques (like dance parties and deep breaths) and we connect back to how these could be useful in the face of peer pressure or stress around using drugs.
